Termite Baiting System
Termite Bait Options for Homeowners
When it comes to installing a termite baiting system, there is no room for mistakes. Termites often destroy structural timbers beyond repair. Therefore, we meticulously install quality barriers that will keep them off your property. At Eco Pest Control Gold Coast, our technicians are qualified and licensed to provide comprehensive termite barrier services.
Termite baiting systems work for termite treatment and prevention. By strategically placing the stations around your home and business, we can detect and kill active termites without being physically present.
A termite baiting and monitoring system is a termite detection and treatment system. We use the systems for detecting termite activities around the building or other areas where you suspect termite colony. Once found, we use the baits to eliminate termites outside and inside the building.
At Eco Pest Control Gold Coast, we use Sentricon, Trelona, and Exterra baiting systems.
Sentricon
Sentricon is a stand-alone termite solution for keeping the pests out of your home. The bait system is backed by more than 60 scientific and 30 independent research studies and is a proven termite control product for eliminating entire colonies.
The station has active termiticide rods that serve as an attractive food source and slow-acting insecticide. For effectiveness, we place the station in the ground, unlike the wood monitoring station. The termiticide rods are the termite baits and are always active to control termites immediately they start feeding.
Trelona
BASF owns Termidor and Trelona – and both are world-leading pest control agents. The baiting station contains novaluron – an active agent that requires less bait for complete colony eradication. However, we use the Trelona baiting station with Termidor so that we can tailor pest management for your specific situation.
The bait station holds up to 248 grams of bait, and its design encourages termite interception and quick feeding.
Exterra
Exterra, which is the short form for “exterminate,” is a straightforward baiting system. It contains the Labyrinth termite bait and wooden interceptors that are cut into pieces so termites can find them palatable. Thanks to numerous openings in the system, the interceptors come in direct contact with the soil for foraging termites to discover.
There are in-ground and above-ground Exterra bait system for flexible use. Depending on what your property needs, we can install the baiting station under concrete or ground or inside your home.
How They Work
The purpose of a bait is to intercept termites in the ground around your home before they reach or damage your property. However, the long-term aim is to eradicate the colony. This is achievable when termites return the actual bait to the nest.
We mix termiticide with the bait in the bait station. When the termites begin to feed on the bait, they distribute it throughout the colony. The bait contains an insect growth inhibitor that prevents moulting throughout the colony. Ultimately, it will kill the nest in a few days.
Types of bait
-
Above ground bait
These types of baits are used inside a structure so that termites can feed the bait directly to the colony. If we detect termite presence inside your building, we will temporarily fix the bait to the door, wall, or window frame where live termites are feeding.
-
In-ground baits
We install in-ground baits under concrete paths or in the soil around a home. We strategically place more than 20 bait systems around the perimeter of your home where termites can find them.
-
Bait monitoring
After installing the bait station, we will come back every few weeks to replenish the system. We do this to reduce the chances of termites consuming the entire bait and abandoning the station. Therefore, we service the stations so they don’t look for another food source.
Bait positioning and why it is important
It is not uncommon for termites not to discover baiting stations. This is why bait positioning is important.
- Location: The bait location often determines its effectiveness. If there is no termite activity where the bait is, it will not be effective.
- Positioning: We don’t place termite baiting stations close to each other. Instead, we place them at least 3 meters apart from one another.
- Visibility: We use baits in places where termites can find them. However, we also pay attention to the environmental impact on the bait during installation.
